In 387 BC, an army of Gauls led by Brennus attacked Rome, capturing all of the city except for the Capitoline Hill, which was successfully held against them. Brennus besieged the hill, and finally the Romans asked to ransom their city. Brennus demanded 1,000 pounds of gold, and the Romans agreed to his terms.
Livy, in Ab Urbe Condita (Book 5 Sections 34-49), records that the Gauls provided Steelyard balances and weights, and the Romans brought out their gold. But the Romans noticed that the weights were fixed, and the tribunes dared to complain to Brennus about the issue. Brennus took his sword, threw it on to the weights, and exclaimed: "Vae victis!" (Woe to the defeated!), for the conquered have no rights, forcing the Romans to bring even more gold to fulfill their obligation.
In 2002 A.D., Granarc led a cadre of elite Hibernian warriors in the domination of the lands of Albion and Midgard on the Guinevere server of Dark Age of Camelot. His name garnered adulation from his allies, pause from his enemies, and respect from both. Following the path of Brennus, Granarc's army took the name of Vae Victis.
But while Granarc could not be defeated on the battlefield, he was taken from his friends and family in 2004 A.D. by Burkitt's Lymphoma. 1000+ friends and enemies came together to pay tribute to his passing, without violence.
In 2009 A.D., a band of brothers and sisters in Warhammer's Old World came together under the leadership of two of Granarc's disciples to gather arms, resources, and manpower to vanquish the evils throughout the lands and bring justice to those who strive to destroy all Order in the world. They were known as...

GUILD CHARTER -
VVG is a guild built for RvR, with a mind toward maintaining a mature atmosphere for its players. Extremely rarely will any guild events be made for PvE, though members are not discouraged from engaging in whatever game activity they wish, be it PvE or RvR.
The motto of VVG is “Take, Claim, Defend.” This is the basis of our activities – what we do not have, we take from Destruction; once taken, we claim it with our flags and our presence, to show we take personal stake and responsibility; and when that claim is contested by the forces of Destruction, we defend what we have claimed. Unlike many, we do not prefer empty targets over contested ones – we will not avoid an enemy keep merely because it is defended, nor will we abandon a keep just because enemies come to take it from us. We live for the fight, not just the victory. A victory without struggle is meaningless; territory held without effort is worthless.
VVG is not a democracy; it is a benevolent military despotism. While the guild’s leader has final say over all guild matters, it is in his interest to listen and collaborate with all members of the guild and consider their desires and opinions, because they have voluntarily entered into the guild and if he abuses his power or neglects his membership, they will leave him a king of nothing. That said, the membership must also be prepared to follow where led and perform as directed, sometimes under duress and difficulty. We are soldiers at war, and a soldier may not always understand why he is ordered to do something. He doesn’t need to. He need only trust that those who have rightfully issued that order know why, and execute them to the best of his ability.
If a member has problems with the orders or another aspect of the leadership, he is encouraged to enter into debate on the guild’s website’s forums after the fact – not become insubordinate while under fire. VVG members are encouraged to speak their mind, but to do so in a way that is not disruptive to the workings of the guild or the enjoyment of other members. If there is dispute among members, take it directly to an officer as soon as possible. If there is a dispute with an officer, take it directly to the guild leader as soon as possible. If there is a dispute with the guild leader, still take it to him as soon as possible, and he will try to be accommodating. However, if the dispute involves the founding and operating principles of the guild, chances are your best option may be to find a guild that suits you better. “Drama” is to be avoided at all costs. We’re here to play a game in which we play to win a war, not star in a soap opera.
We ask nothing from you other than your best effort, your enthusiasm, your maturity and your respect for your fellow guild members. But these things… we do expect.
Description of Ranks of Vae Victis Granarc –
Initiate – this player has been invited into VVG very recently. This rank only exists because it is a Warhammer Online default. As soon as Guild Leader sees an initiate, he will make note of the new member and promote them to member status.
Member – A member of VVG, the muscle of the guild. Members are trusted to represent the guild well, to be polite to everyone (though “friendly” is entirely their choice), to do their best in their role and to follow instructions during a guild event with swiftness and vigor. Members may deposit into the guild funds, may drop items into any guild bank page, and may remove items from the unsecured guild bank pages if they can use them. All members have the ability to read and speak in alliance chat.
Talent Scout – This is a member of VVG who is trusted and tasked to seek out and recruit new members. It is the nature of Warhammer Online that sometimes members can be active one day and vanish the next, possibly never to be seen again, so new blood is important. In addition to the above member attributes, Talent Scouts have the ability to invite players into the guild.
Squad Leaders – These members of VVG are the nervous system and adrenal glands of the guild. Squad leaders are members of the guild who have shown competency and enthusiasm where guild activities are concerned, particularly in RvR. In addition to all of the above abilities, Squad Leaders may also assign standard bearers, claim keeps, upgrade keeps, and unclaim keeps. Squad leaders are expected to try to “get the ball rolling” with any other members who are online and of a mind to cooperate in RvR. Members looking for something to do would be well advised to seek out a Squad Leader.
Officers – Officers have surrendered their freedom and will completely to the advancement of the guild. An officer’s time is no longer their own – they do what needs doing, play whatever role needs playing, organizes whatever needs organizing, no matter their personal feelings or moods. Officers attempt to maintain multiple characters of varying levels, so that they can lead or participate in a guild event in any tier. Officers must spend at least 25 hours per week in game and are responsible for administration of the guild. They look out for the other members, assisting them and helping wherever they can. Being an officer represents a small amount of power, and a large amount of sacrifice. In addition to all above abilities and responsibilities, Officers can promote/demote/kick members from the guild, can take funds or items from any section of the guild vault (usually for purposes of immediate delivery to a member who has made a reasonable request for it), and their decisions speak with the weight of the guild leader.
Guild Leader – In addition to all above abilities and responsibilities, the guild leader administrates our role in alliances, sets guild policy and has ultimate authority in any decisions made that affect the guild. In the event that the guild leader is temporarily unable to attend to his duties, he will designate an officer to carry on in his place until he returns.
